JPM Vasarely Museum (3 Káptalan Street)
Victor Vasarely (Győző Vásárhelyi) was one of the defining figures of 20th-century visual art, the founder and most celebrated representative of the Op Art movement. His permanent exhibition in his hometown of Pécs provides a comprehensive overview of every period of his artistic career, from his early advertising graphics through his abstract geometric and kinetic works to his large-scale paintings and textile pieces exploring the spatial effects of colour.
In accordance with the artist’s wishes, the exhibition also includes outstanding works from the international collection he donated to the museum, featuring both predecessors and contemporaries connected to his artistic practice. Rather than being displayed separately, these works are integrated among Vasarely’s own creations, providing valuable context.
The renewed exhibition, reopened in 2026, presents several works that visitors have never had the opportunity to see during the past fifty years. Among them are the nearly one-square-metre screen prints from Vasarely’s late-period VI-VA album, displayed for the first time following their restoration.
On the ground floor, visitors can also discover Vasarely S.P.A.C.E., an interactive educational area designed for creative minds of all ages, including families with children. (S.P.A.C.E. stands for See, Try, Create, Make and Enjoy.) Here, visitors can independently immerse themselves in Vasarely’s playful universe.
